Distance Faculty Guide to Library Resources and Services

This purpose of this guide is to advertise the various resource and services available to faculty of the online programs at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science.

Do any of these questions sound familiar?

  • Are you unsure what resources are available to you through the library?
  • Have you searched for resources with Google and not found what you need?
  • Have you tried using PubMed and feel like you are getting nowhere?
  • Do you need help finding the right terms for your search?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, you can benefit from an appointment with a librarian!

When you make an appointment a librarian will sit down with you to discuss your research process and provide you with tips and strategies you can apply to improve the quality of your results.

Some of the topics which can be discussed in a session include:

  • Overview of Library resources
  • Subject searching
  • Basics of PubMed
  • Advanced Pubmed techniques
  • How to find a specific journal
  • How to find articles on a topic
  • How to find clinical information
  • How to effectively limit your search
  • How to revise your search
  • Evaluation techniques

Can't come to campus? No Problem!

As a faculty member of one of our distance programs, you may not have the opportunity to visit our campus in North Chicago. However you still are entitled to assistance with finding resources. Below are a few examples of how we meet with you one-on-one.

Video Chat:

Zoom

Zoom is now the go-to choice for many of our users, allowing for many users and has been made institutionally to all Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science students, staff and faculty.

Google Meet

Since we all have Google accounts we have access to Google Meet. Google Hangouts allows us to see each other face to face while also having to ability to share our screens with each other. By sharing our screens librarians can demonstrate tips that may help you in your search process.

Extended Phone Conversation or Conference Call:

If you do not feel comfortable doing a video chat or are unable, we can set up a time where we can talk for an extended period.

Some of the benefits of having a conference call:

  • You can go through your research steps in a relaxed environment.
  • We can give you tips specific to your situation or project.
  • If you are near a computer we can send you handouts, tutorials, etc via email.

If either of these options interest you, please fill out the form below to schedule an appointment.
