Wiley Transformational Agreement

What is the Wiley Transformational Agreement (TA)?

The Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois (CARLI) has entered into a five-year agreement with Wiley to waive article processing charges (APC) for open access (OA) publishing in Wiley's hybrid and open access journals. CARLI institutions (which includes RFUMS) will share an annual pool of 39 OA article entitlements that is used on a first come, first served basis. That means that RFUMS shares this pool with 9 other CARLI institutions. When the 39 articles run out, they are not renewed until January 1 of the next year.

Put simply, the Wiley TA allows you to publish your work OA for free in a Wiley hybrid or OA journal.

Who is eligible to use the Wiley TA?

Any RFUMS affiliates (faculty, staff and students) are eligible for an OA article entitlement.

What journals does the Wiley TA cover?

The Wiley TA is available for any of Wiley's hybrid or open access journals.

How do I utilize the Wiley TA?

If you submit a manuscript to a Wiley hybrid or OA journal and select that you would like to publish OA you should be prompted to indicate that you are a part of a consortium with a TA.

Please use your RFUMS email when you submit your manuscript because that helps CARLI verify that you are an affiliate of this institution.

Remember, the 39 OA article entitlements are on a first-come, first-served basis for all CARLI institutions. We cannot guarantee that you will be able to get your APC covered by this agreement. We recommend you have an alternative plan to pay for your APC if the 39 entitlements run out for the year.
