Where to Look

One of the first things to do when determining where to publish your research is to see what journals are publishing research like yours. Use keywords from your own research to find articles like yours and see what journals they are published in.

JANE - Journal/Author Name Estimator
JANE allows you to paste in the title and/or abstract of your paper and it will find journals that are publishing work similar to yours. JANE relies on data from PubMed. You will see tags for journals indexed in Medline and journals listed in the DOAJ.
PubReMiner
PubReMiner allows you to do detailed analysis of PubMed results. You can search for keywords important to your research and it will show you which journals publish the most under those keywords.
JournalGuide
JournalGuide has a Paper Match feature where you can put in your manuscript title and/or keywords and it will match up similar research. You can also search Journals and Publishers.

Directories will have listings of journals on whatever criteria it focuses on. Remember that journals listed in directories still need to be evaluated for quality.

The DOAJ allows you to find open access journals and articles.

Find general journal information and journal statistics

Academic journal publishers will create tools that help you find journals that are right for your research. It is important to remember that when you use a publisher's tool, you likely will only be finding journals that they publish.

Elsevier JournalFinder
Enter your title and/or abstract of your paper to find journals that publish similar research. It also allows you to select keywords and field of research, as well as further limit to things like open access policies.
Springer Journal Suggester
Enter your manuscript's information to find a list of Springer journals that might be right for your research.
Taylor & Francis Journal Suggester (BETA)
Enter in your abstract and this tool will suggest a "shortlist" of Taylor & Francis journals to submit your research.
Wiley Journal Finder (BETA)
This tools requires your manuscript title and abstract and it will suggest a list of Wiley journals that may be a good fit for your research.
