Claressa Slaughter, MSLIS, AHIP

Education and Research Librarian

Claressa joined the Boxer Library in June 2020. She is responsible for leading curriculum design related to identifying and using information to support health sciences education and Evidence Based Practice (EBP). Some topics within her expertise include identifying high-quality information resources such as articles and books; database searching; evaluating and appraising resources; and copyright and fair use in higher education.

In addition to her instructional duties, Claressa also provides reference services to the RFUMS community and leads outreach activities around library resources.

Claressa is a native of California where she obtained her B.A. in English and Creative Writing at San Francisco State University (2014). She completed her Master’s in Library and Information Science at the University of Illinois' iSchool in 2020. Prior to pursuing a career in librarianship, Claressa worked in event planning and hospitality. She still loves to talk about creative ways to celebrate any occasion, even during socially distant times.
