The purpose of this guide is to provide tips, tricks, and tools for creating citations in either the American Medical Association (AMA) or American Psychological Association (APA) style format to support academic writing.
Citation Style Guides
- When to use: When you want to quickly review common citation formats, such as how to cite journal articles, books, or websites. Also if you want to cite pharmacy materials such as package inserts, Micromedex, etc.
Citation Style Manuals
- When to use: When you want to review the text of the actual manual, or when you have an unusual reference type.
Reference Managers & Citation Tools
- When to use: When you want to gather all of your citations in one central location, and/or you need assistance formatting citations. Note: if you use the software to generate citations, always double-check the citations before submitting the paper. Use the citation manuals or AMA or APA quick guides to ensure you are following the correct formatting rules.
