Library Services for Faculty

This site outlines various library services available to the faculty of RFUMS.

Library Services for Distance Faculty

Even though you or your students may never set foot on campus, you are still eligible to access all of the resources and services that the library provides.

  • Remember, all of the Library's electronic resources are accessible off campus with a HelixNet username and password. For issues with passwords, contact the IT Helpdesk at (847)578-8800.
  • To access articles that are not held in the library collection, or materials that are only available in print, you can use our Interlibrary Loan and Print2PDF service. This service is available at no cost to current students, faculty, and staff. Typical turnaround time is 1-2 business days. To learn more about this service, visit the Interlibrary Loan and Print2PDF guide, or click here to learn how to place requests.
  • The library can provide you and your students with reference help in the form of a phone call or video chat. To learn more about these services, please see the Reference Options for Distance Students and Faculty section below.
  • Librarians can also record online lectures on topics such as search tips, applying subject headings, citation styles, PubMed, copyright, and more. These online lectures can be included in your D2L Brightspace course.
  • We can do other things to help in D2L as well: create persistent links to articles or resources, embed FAQs and guides/tutorials into D2L modules, drop into a class for a guest lecture week, design a virtual course pack, etc. Just get in touch and let us know what you need!

If you have any questions about services the library can provide to your distance program, contact the librarians at eresources@rosalindfranklin.edu.

Reference Options for Distance Students and Faculty

Below are a few examples of how we meet with you one-on-one while off-campus.

Video Chat: Google + Hangout

Since we all have Google accounts via our email, we all have access to Google +, which has Google Hangouts. Google Hangouts allows us to see each other face-to-face while also having to ability to share our screens with each other. By sharing our screens librarians can demonstrate tips and processes.

Some of the benefits of having a Google + video chat:

  • We can talk face-to-face without having to physically meet
  • Google Hangouts can be done from desktop or laptop
  • We can share each screen which allows us to see what your process is, and in turn we can show you tips we have found helpful.

Extended Phone Conversation or Conference Call:

If you do not feel comfortable doing a video chat or are unable to do so, we are also happy to conduct meetings on the phone.

If either of these options interest you, please fill out the Schedule an Appointment with a Librarian Form.
