Searching PsycINFO Using Fields

When you enter a term and then hit search, PsycINFO will look for those terms in any part of the record, which can include the article title, abstract, author, journal title, etc.

If you want PsycINFO ot only look for your terms in a specific part of the record, choose the appropriate field in the list.

Some popular fields include:

  • Title
  • Author
  • Subject
  • Abstract
  • MESH Subject Heading
  • Source (Publication)

How to Refine your PsycINFO Search

Look for "Refined Results" on the left to add limits to your search once you've retrieved results.

Important limiters in Refine Results include:

  • Full Text
    • Limits visible abstracts to ones with complete articles attached
  • Publication Date
    • Narrows down your search to articles within a set range of years
  • Source Type (Publication)
    • PsycINFO has abstracts for various types of publications, including:
      • Books
      • Dissertations
      • Electronic Collections
    • You can narrow the search further by making a selection in the Publication Type box on the Advanced Search Page or by checking one of the boxes under Source Type in the Refine Results Sidebar.

The Search Results will automatically update with every limiter you add.
