American Psychological Association (APA) Citation Style Guide

The purpose of this guide is to instruct users on some of the rules of the American Psychological Association (APA) Citation Style.

Journals without DOI

Format:

Last Name, First Initial. Middle Initial., & Last Name, First Initial. Middle Initial. (Publication Year). Article Title. Journal Title, Volume number (issue), Page Numbers. URL. 

Example:

Buss, D.M.(1981) Predicting parent-child interactions from the children's activity level. Developmental Psychology, 17, 59-65. Retrieved from http://www.apa.org/pubs/journals/dev/. 

  • All citations need to be in a hanging indent. 

Note for 7th edition: 

If the journal is from a database in the library databases and there is no DOI, cite the item like a a print journal. The purpose of the URL is to provide a way to access the item. If the item is behind a paywall, and the reader is from outside the institution they will not be able to access the item.
