American Medical Association (AMA) Style Quick Guide

The purpose of this guide is to provide some basic rules for the American Medical Association Style.

Journal Without DOI

Format:

Author Last Name First and Middle Initials. Article title. Abbreviated Journal Title in Italics. Publication Year;volume(issue):page numbers. URL. Published Date. Updated Date. Accessed Date.

You do not need to include month if the volume and issue are included.

Example:

Manary MJ, Hotz C, Krebs NF, et al. Dietary phytate reduction improves zinc absorption in Malawian children recovering from tuberculosis but not in well children. J Nutr. 2000;130(12):2959-2964. http://jn.nutrition.org/content/130/12/2959.long. Accessed July 28, 2021.

Use the URL that will take the reader to the article in the most direct fashion, not a link from subscription database (e.g., from the library), as library-specific links may require users to log in with university credentials. In the above example, a RFUMS-specific link would be: https://academic-oup-com.rosalindfranklin.idm.oclc.org/jn/article/130/12/2959/4686239.

Example:

Manary MJ, Hotz C, Krebs NF, et al. Dietary phytate reduction improves zinc absorption in Malawian children recovering from tuberculosis but not in well children. J Nutr. 2000;130(12):2959-2964.
