The purpose of this guide is to provide some basic rules for the American Medical Association Style.

Citing Images

AMA was really meant for publication and not for student papers and presentations. One of the questions we often get is how do I cite an image in my PowerPoint Presentation?

There is no official way from AMA on how to cite images within a PowerPoint, but there are two ways which many have accepted as best practice:

  • Put the full citation as a footnote at the bottom of the slide. 
  • Put the citation as an in-text reference and then have a reference list on one or more slides at the end of the presentation.
